Tokyo Jepchirchir’s Olympic Champion savor the return to Japan

Peres Jepchirchir said on Wednesday that she was enjoying her imminent return to Japan for the first time since he joined forces with Olympic Olympic Marathon at Tokyo Games in 2021.

Jepchirchir was appointed as one of Kenya’s three women in the marathon team for the world athletics championships in Tokyo on September 13 to 21.

The other athletes include the current champion of the Rotterdam marathon, Jackline Cherono and Magdalyne Masai, who finished fourth in the Tokyo Marathon of this year.

Jepchirchir, 31 years old, twice half-marathon champion, overcome intense warmth to take gold at the Tokyo Olympic Games in August 2021, broke his compatriot Kenyan and the former holder of the record of the Marathon Brigid Kosgei.

“I am satisfied with the confidence that Kenyan selectors have had in me despite the disappointment at the Paris Olympic Games,” she told AFP in Nairobi.

“This is the first time that I have participated in the world championships, and I look forward to it,” she added.

“We know that Ethiopia has selected a strong team and they are the reigning champions. But I believe in the Kenya team and I pray that God will give us health and strength that day to face it.”

The female marathon will take place on September 14, followed by the male race a day later.

The Kenyane male team is led by Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich, the best time of which is 2:03:13, which he recorded during his beginnings in the Berlin Marathon in 2023 when he finished second behind Eliud Kipchoge.

Kipchoge, the double Olympic champion, will not participate in Tokyo.
