Janeth Chepngetich amazed a solid field on Tuesday in Kenyan tests to win the 10,000 m female title and obtain a first appearance at the world athletics championships in Tokyo.
The 26 -year -old held the challenges of two world record holders, Agnes JEBET NGETICH and Beatrice Chebet.

Janeth Chepngetich has nothing to do with the world record for women Ruth Chepngetich, whose provisional suspension for doping earlier this month threw a shadow on the preparations for Kenya for Tokyo.
“I had established a strategy since the start. I wanted to control the pace and offer my competitors a chance (to see if they would take up a challenge),” said Chepngetich to journalists.
“But in the end, I managed to nail the victory.”
Chepngetich won in the 30 -minute 27.02sec period when she caught up with accuracy for the Paris Olympic Games last year when she finished fourth at the trials.

Chebet, who also set a new world record for the 5000m female at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene two weeks ago, was satisfied with his third place which guaranteed him an appearance of the world championships.
NGetich is a world record holder in the 10 km road.
In the 3,000 meters of 3,000 meters, the Olympic bronze medalist Faith Cherotich was back in her winning ways after losing against the Rival Bahreïni Winfred Yavi in Eugene.
The 21 -year -old won in 9: 09.44, well in advance on Doris Lemngole, second, (9:24:69) with Caren Chebet in third with 9: 34.91.
In the male steplechase, the world champion under 20, Edmund, expired for the absence of his older brother Amos Serem by an injury when he won the race in 8: 38.91.

“It was a difficult moment for me knowing that brother Amos would also have participated in these tests. But winning here today is a consolation for him too. I go to Tokyo to win a medal for him,” said Serem.
The winner of the Diamond League 2023, Simon Kiprop Koech, finished second in 8: 39.97, while the medalist of the world and the Olympic bronze Abraham Kibiwott was third
Phansel Kipkosgei Koech, the 18 -year -old who is a rising star in the 1,500m, withdrew from his race with Fatigue because he had just returned from London where he beat the British reigning world champion Josh Kerr during the meeting of the Diamond League.
Koech will still be included in the Tokyo team, but the 1,500 m on Tuesday was won by Reynold Cheruiyot in a slow time of 3: 48.86, with the 2019 world champion Timothy Cheruiyot taking second place in 3: 49.07 and Brian Komen just behind.
